How to volunteer with us

You can volunteer with community working on conservation in Kakamega forest,

We have community groups under Muileshi community forest association that work to save the rainforest as follows;

  • Kakamega Community Based Organization (KCBO)
  • Musha CBO
  • Ikuchi CBO
  • KEEP
  • Lianungu CBO

The groups deals with tree nursery, bee keeping, environmental education in community and local schools around the forest,

Tree planting in the forest open areas, Medicinal plants awareness and conservation, creating awareness on biodiversity conservation,

Creating awareness on local draditional food and general community work.

All volunteers stay in community home stay close to project site around the forest.

The Voluntary periot is as from 2 weeks to 6 month or more.

Volunteers will pay 350 US$ per month per person and this is for accommodation and all meals for the all month.

Vonteers will work from Monday to Friday as from 8:00AM to 12:30PM then break for lunch and from 2:00PM to 3:30PM when there is alot of work.

Volunteers are free on weekend and they can visit other areas in Kenya or neighbour country or they can ask few days for vacation.

Volunteers can also come to learn from community or also community learn from volunteers. There is no qualification needed from volunteers in oder to volunteer.

Volunteers can help the community in proposal writing, marketing community producats or any volunteer can start new project with community.

At the end of volunteers periot, volunteers are awarded participation certificate as way of appreciation.

Operating hours

Forest reserve is open 365 days a year, even holidays, from 8am till 6pm. It is possible to arrive earlier for a sunrise walk, or to come for a night walk, but please book ahead of time.
